 Florida Writers' Project Digital Collection

Collection Home - Swisher Library

The digitization of this collection was made possible through a Library Services and Technology Act grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, administered by the State Library of Florida through the Northeast Florida Library Information Network, NEFLIN.  The grant enabled NEFLIN to provide participating libraries with training and equipment appropriate for the project.  The goal of the DISC (Digital Imaging of Specialized Collections) project is to provide online access to special collections materials in libraries in north Florida.

The materials presented here are a small portion of the papers of Dr. Carita Doggett Corse, Director of the Florida Federal Writers' Project from its inception in 1935 until 1942. The 15 linear feet of files consist mainly of typescripts for the WPA Writers' Project for the state of Florida. The information in the files represents writers' efforts during the 1930's and the early 1940's. Corse maintained personal typescript copies of the writers' stories, interviews and research, as well as other handwritten notes that are not part of the WPA files found in several other Florida libraries. The files also contain various photographs and original correspondence to and from Dr. Corse.  Bibliographic records for these items are available through the Library's catalog and through OCLC's FirstSearch.
